For the longest time I have always placed two spaces after a period. I never thought this was wrong since this is what I learned while in high school. However, recently I have been researching typography and noticed many people saying that one space after a period is correct.
How was I supposed to know? I understand that two spaces after a period was relevant when typewriters were mainstream. I think I can say that the typewriter era has passed.
We are in the computer age and typefaces are no longer monospaced, meaning that letters do not use the same space length. The letter i takes less space than the letter m for example. On a typewriter, all characters use the same length. Because of this, two spaces after a period made reading the text much easier.
Look at a magazine, a book, or even online text. There are no two spaces, only one after a period. There are many proportional typefaces used now for web design and desktop publishing so two spaces seems too wide and may not look good.
I must now, as Yoda put it, unlearn what I have learned. It is hard to not place two spaces after a period. My thumbs are so accustomed to it that I have to think really hard to not place that extra space. At least you cannot see my mistakes since the internet only displays one space. This may take some getting used to since I was doing the two space thing while writing this post.

I recently received my old Nintendo 64 from my cousins and I could not be happier. Years ago I gave this to them since I had no use for it. I never found enough time to play and figured it would get more use with them. They played the heck out of it. It turns out that this machine is considered outdated, so I ended up getting this back. That’s good news for me.
I have been wanting an older video game system, but really did not want to invest the money. I now have what I have been looking for. To be honest, I was really looking for an original Nintendo, but the Nintendo 64 will suffice. As a bonus, I received additional games that I originally did not have.
I hooked up the nintendo, which took about two minutes and I was off being a kid again. I have been a fan of Super Mario 64 since the game came out, but have never finished the game. I am now determined to do so. I also played Fox Sports College Hoops ‘99, which was cool. I did not play any of the other games since they did not interest me.
Of course being older and having more responsibilities will not allow endless hours of video game playing. However, I figure this will be a nice getaway and hopefully I can find some games that April and I can enjoy together.

If you use a laptop at work and you wish to utilize a laptop at home for business use, then it is assumed that you would just take the business laptop home. I mean, it seems logical. Maybe even common sense. How silly would it be to have a laptop at work and one for home when they are both used for the same purpose?
Well, a few days ago I was proven that there is a lack of common sense. I had a customer call me today asking that a new laptop be setup for their business partner’s home use. Of course, the administrative assistant had to call in because the big time executive is so busy.
The assistant also told me that the data from the current laptop needed to be copied over to the second laptop. What? This could be avoided if the executive actually took his laptop home. Also the company would save money from unnecessary expenses.
I cannot disclose names because I do not really remember the customer’s name. Dealing with over 50 people a day, you tend to forget who you talked to. Although, I can tell you that common sense really lacks at my job. Come to think of it, common sense lacks everywhere I look.
Of course the likelihood of this person coming to my website and reading this is slim. If that person did read this, they would probably agree with me and not realize that this rant is about them.
By the way, my name is Steve. This is not to be confused with Dave, which sounds very similar. Not only do people at my job have no common sense, but they also cannot hear.
